Mac App Store To AIm For Quality
The highly anticipated new mac app store will officially launch on Thursday, Jan 6, 2011.
In a public relations release, steve jobs said that he hopes that he Mac App Store will do for OS X software what the App Store did for mobile apps. Analyists say it has the potentiality of forever changing the way software is sold and sistributed.
With the Mac App Store opening there’s a change in the attempts of developers to make quality programs for the store. Apple states that they may only consider totally functional, retail versions, and it will not allow kernel extensions, private APIs, or applications that request root user privileges.
Some developers aren’t happy about some of Apples new policies. Some of the most outstanding are that they will not allow trials, demos, or beta programmes on the Mac App Store since these were profitable practices for the developers in the past.
Also, Apple may ban any applications that allow the user to customize or modify the appearance of the OS or behave as a system use.
Nick Gold, director of business development at Chesapeake Systems, a Baltimore based Apple partner, claims “Apple is aiming towards users that need buying, downloading, installation and management of desktop Mac software to be as simple as possible . It is a new place for certain developers get software in front of more eyes.”
There’ll be no previously existing apps that’ll be automatically transferred to the Mac App Store. Any developer who wishes to sell their programs on the new web-based store will have to submit new online paperwork to Apple by not later than 8 PM ET on December 31 to be ready for the new internet sites launce date.
