Are you looking for a great Centrino 2 notebook without a big price list; you and everyone else? The Sony Vaio SR 19 NV is on market for almost a year so the price was lowered. Its best features are the excellent design and high power level processing. Sony products are always small and portable gadgets. The Vaio SR 19 NV weights 1.9 kg and it is aimed for the users that want luxury design and great portability in their notebooks. Sony made an odd design choice because the lid and base of this notebook are made from magnesium alloy, while the rest of the case is made out of plastic but painted to look like metal. It feels kind of weird at touch.

The Sony notebook is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 chip with a frequency of 2.2 GHz. This chip is part of the Centrino 2 technology. It features thermal design power that helps the CPU generate less heat and promises to save battery life. All the best performances you can get from the Intel technology are based on notebooks with DDR 3 memory. Unfortunately Sony has not improved its notebooks memory form the DDR 2 to the new DDR 3. Therefore the SR 19 NV is not in the high end model line. The SR 19 remains cool to the touch after long periods of time. This is a good feature considering the processor, high performances and dedicated graphic chip. Although features only DDR 2 technology, the notebook has 4086 MB random access memory (2 x 2048 MB). Thanks to the RAM values the device runs smoothly Windows Vista Business Edition.

The hard drive has a storage capacity of 200 GB and it has a DVD Burner double layer optical drive. The Sony SR 19 NV sports a 13″ excellent screen using LED technology. Therefore the display offers great color and a good WXGA resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The notebooks display has a 34 cm diagonal. The SR 19 NV has a 1.3 MP built in webcam. The display is bright enough to use in direct sunlight, even if reflections and finger prints are easy to spot on the glossy TFT display. A frustrating detail for the users that edits big texts: the key bridges. Even so the keyboard dimensions are in normal limits and the track pad is big enough and also contains a sensor for digital fingerprints.

A great feature is the fully customizable five keypads to which you can program any functions you would like. The symbols of these keypads are displayed on the screen. Graphics are provided by the ATi Mobility Radeon HD 3470 chip. This delivers great performance in the compact SR 19 NV case. The dedicated graphic chip will not help your notebook to run games but you can surely manage everyday tasks, because it offers twice the usability than a shared graphic chip. In the connectivity department Sony is losing the ground under its feet. It has 10 / 100 Mbps Ethernet, Wi-Fi with 802.11 a/b/g standard. The notebook also sports Bluetooth, a dial up modem, VGA (to connect digital displays – there is no support for digital or high definition connections), DC in, RJ 45, RJ 11, input 3.5 mm Jack headphone, microphone, card express and two USB ports. Unfortunately it lacks HDMI, Infrared; Line it, eSATA and S Video. The battery is a standard model Li-Ion with 54 Wh.

The autonomy of the accumulator dries out is you try to work on the notebook more than 2 hours and 18 minutes. What’s the best description for the Sony SR 19 NV? The Vaio SR 19 NV was the first Centrino 2 based laptop to hit the stores. It is a lightweight device with an excellent 13″ display, dedicated GPU and a weight of 1.9 kg. It sports a 45 nm Intel Core 2 Duo processor, a Mobile Intel 45 Express chipset and an 802.11n Wi-Fi adapter included as standard. The most important upgrade is the frequency of 2.26 GHz ensured by the 1066 MHz FSB (upgraded from 800 MHz). The screen, the high end technology (excepting the DDR 2 RAM) and the small weight makes this device a great portable notebook. However the keyboard and the horrible battery life will ruin its great features. Is not recommended that the Sony Vaio SR 19 NV to be your only PC. If you are interested in good bargains then the Vaio SR 19 NV might just be what you are looking for. Remember this is not a new model; it has limited connectivity, bad battery life, weird build quality and an overall awkward design. However it is still a stylish notebook, with powerful performances, stunning screen and has a small weight which makes it easy to handle.
